What is TNR, and why is it important?
TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Release.
It is a humane process for controlling cat colonies and involves safely trapping cats, neutering and/or vaccinating them, and releasing them back into their colony. It is important to keep harmful behaviors and even disease from spreading, and for controlling cat populations.
TNR services are available in institutions such as:
Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center

Harmony Vet Care

Humane Society of Tampa Bay

Where can I get TNR services?
Should I feed outdoor cats that come to my home?
This is fine, however, it may lead other cats to your home. It is your choice if you decide to feed them. If you do, leave fresh water and take the food up at night so other animals don't get into it.
What should I do if I find outdoor kitties?
If you see a mama cat around the kitties, leave them alone to the mama cat. If they are abandoned, then relocate them to a pet resource center where they can receive proper care. It is very important to be gentle and very cautious with dealing with these kitties as they are extremely vulnerable.
To get outdoor cats/kittens more comfortable with your presence, talk in a soft voice and refrain from being harsh. Without directly engaging, stay in their presence doing a normal/usual task so they get used to you.
